People say you should live your life to the fullest and live life with out regrets. I really wish I could do that but I regret something that will never happen to you again in your life. There’s only really one thing in my whole life that that I really regret.

Sometimes I didn’t really think about things. I kind of didn’t realise I kept putting it off. I will always live with the regret of when my grandpa or Pops as I called him died. It’s the hardest thing when someone you love so much dies. Probably many of you have experienced the losse of someone loved, but this was the first time I actually did. I was living in New Zealand and my Pops lived in America, where I used to live.

It was so spontanious, I came home from school one day and my Mom wasn’t home instead my Mom’s friend was at home. Straight away when I walked through the door she said pack your bags now because your going to America tonight! It just felt unreal! Leaving back to where I used to live that night. I guess I didn’t realise going to America wasn’t for holidays it was for my Pops because he was in the hospital dieing.

Once I was in America we were there for about 1 1/2 weeks. We were going to the hospital everyday. I didn’t even talk to my Pops really in the hospital and I wish I did. I would just sit in the room talking to my cousins. Over the days Pops started getting better. Everyone had a burst of hope that he would still live for a while. He was out of the hospital and I had 1/2 a week left. He was back at home and I thought I would definetly see Pops again in a year or two.

It was our last day and we were leaving to the airport that day. Our friends had come to my grandparents house to pick us up and take us to the airport. When I really should have been talking and saying bye to Pops I was watching TV and playing outside with our friends. My parents warned me and said, this is probably the last time you will see Pops. But when someone says this is the last time you will see your beloved Pops, noone wants to believe that. This is basically what I did. I couldn’t believe that, it was too sad to be true.  I just kept doing my own thing with my friends. Then, it was time to leave for the airport and say good bye! I said bye to my grandma and then my Pops. He was laying in bed and he could barely talk to me. I gave him a quick kiss and hug. I sat for a little while holding his wrinkly warm hand tightly. I just remeber walking out the bedroom and have one last glimpse of Pops laying there with his eyes closed. I thought I would for sure get to see him again before he passed. He was out of the hospital and it seemed like he was getting better.

I barely spent time with him, which I completely regret. I could have been spent that time with Pops instead of wasting my time watching TV. But I hope I have learned to make the most of the loved people around you. Because, those last few moments can make a big difference. You never know when you will have that chance again.

Letting go…

You probably think going over seas would be so much fun and is a great experience. This is what i thought until the time actually came for me i realized I was actually gone and leaving where my child hood started. Not only for a holiday but forever.

I was nearly 11 when my parents told me news that would change my life forever.  On a Wednesday (I can still remeber the day) my parents took me and my brother to a resturant. They told us that we need to talk. Me and my brother fervidly glared at eachother. But this time not out of enthusiasum but a worried, ‘oh no!’ look. We thought we were in trouble. But it just so turned out i had nothing to do with us being in trouble, my parents thought there was a great experience ahead of us. I waited and waited eagerly for them to break the news. Finally there was a long moment of silence and then… “we are moving to New Zealand!” My eyes filled with tears and i tried to hold them back. The first thing that came to my mind was we are actually leaving the place i have known for my whole life. And of course you think that first when your only 11 and leaving your home. I had to start a new school, make new friends, have a new house, and basically start new. I couldn’t bare the thought of leaving! I would have to let go of all my firend, family, and where my memories started.

A couple days before I left, all my friends where crying and in tears. I thought I would have been wishing the day would never come to an end, but instead I was excited. I said bye to my Best Friend. She was crying but i was’nt I don’t think i realised I was not going to see her for 3 years. I just said a simple Bye, gave her a hug and she was off. I didn’t realise I was never going to be living in the same house again. I lived there all my life and we redid the whole house, which took 8 years. Two weeks before I left our house was finally finished! Great! I only had to weeks in my finished house. Eight years of my life was spent in our house unfinished. And finally right before i move it’s done! I loved my house so much and most of my memories were held in there. Not only my house but i was letting go of my school, family, and friends.

Once the day came for moving to New Zealand, I just got on with my day. I basically pretended it was my average day. It wasn’t until I got on the plane that i realised I was ACTUALLY leaving! I never really thought I would be letting go of where my whole life had started. It’s hard to explain this feeling. You feel full of mixed feelings. You have positive and negative attitude, mixed with sadness, frustration, and feeling extremely worried. But, I had a clean slate, new experience, and different life ahead of me.
